Kurt Cobain, extreme dignity and early death

An obvious stand-out quality is that all 7 traditional planets are in Water and trine by sign. Furthermore, 4 planets are either in domicile or exalted, 4 are angular, 2 are in the 11th (the next best house), and only Mars is cadent. His 4 Arabic Parts of eminence are a little less dignified, but all have very strong rulers, Fortune is tightly conjunct the North Node, and Exaltation is right on the Moon, in the 11th. Furthermore, Spirit, while in the shitty 6th house, is in the 10th derived house from Fortune, which is important since Spirit correlates with career, as does any 10th house derived position.

He's also got 2 planets in hayz (completely in sect): Moon and Venus, with Venus also being tightly conjunct the Descendant (and exalted). Also close to the Descendant were Mercury and Saturn, with Mercury the only debilitated planet, but also in phasis, emphasizing it.

Even more tellingly for his level of fame with the collective, the Uranus/Pluto conjunction was tightly on his Ascendant, squaring the Midheaven. Therefore, all 4 angles were hit by that very major aspect.

So with all this dignity, why was he so fucking miserable? A classical explanation could be the status of his Jupiter and Saturn: while Jupiter is exalted and in the 11th house, it is completely out of sect, and retrograde. Out of sect benefic planets don't give their benefits as readily, or bring excess. He did most things to excess, AND Jupiter never seemed to bestow the optimism on him. This is exacerbated by Saturn, which is also completely contrary to its sect, but also powerful, being in the 7th. With Jupiter contrary, there wasn't much to counter Saturn's baleful depressing influence. Having Saturn in the same sign as the Sun, and conjoining Mercury and Venus didn't help him much. His exceptionally strong Venus couldn't counter Saturn running amok. Furthermore, both Jupiter and Saturn were in their own Terms. This enhances them, but enhancing a planet that's in a contrary position isn't a good thing.

Since all his planets were in Water, the trigon lords for every planet (plus exaltation) were Mars for the first half of his life, Venus for the second half (which he probably never got to), supported by the Moon throughout. While Mars is in pretty good shape (and the Moon especially), it's nothing compared to the dignity of Venus, conjunct the horizon, exalted, and in hayz. His situation would have improved if he could've held on.

Now, about his health: he wasn't a super healthy guy, physically. All his adult life, he had stomach pains he couldn't find a diagnosis for. Health, I feel, is indicated by the Moon, Chart Ruler, and Fortune. His Moon was great, so that can't be it. Fortune is in the 9th house, ruled by Venus in the 7th (which makes it very advantageously positioned relative to Fortune). That leaves us with the Chart Ruler to consider: Mercury. Now, Mercury's strong, in phasis, conjunct the Descendant, and in its own Terms. It's also his one planet debilitated, in its worst sign, Pisces, which is classically both its debility and fall. Furthermore, while the 7th is a strong house, it being associated with the setting sun (and he was born just after sunset) has some very negative connotations. Mercury had just fallen below the horizon about 20 minutes earlier. This is my speculation, as I haven't seen this discussed in any sources, but it strikes me as likely that the Chart Ruler (again, associated with the body) having just set below the horizon may be an ill omen. Furthermore, Fortune's ruler, Venus, dipped below the horizon about twelve minutes AFTER his birth. If I'm right, it's worth noting that the Ascendant (which Mercury rules) is in Virgo.

Virgo is traditionally associated with the stomach and intestines. Remember what I said above about the Uranus/Pluto conjunction attached to the Ascendant? Probably didn't help.

 Spooky, huh?

Hellenistic Astrology and Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto

A constant point of contention among ancient astrologers is whether or not to use Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto. Personally, I think it's a silly debate: unlike more recently discovered bodies like Quaoar, there's been ample research going back centuries into what these "modern" planets do. We can use them with confidence. Now, how do I, personally, use them? They're not sign rulers: I still use Mars for Scorpio, Saturn for Aquarius, and Jupiter for Pisces. Furthermore, in many charts, I view them as a minor influence: they have to become "personalized" by being in aspect (preferably conjunction) to important bodies like the Sun, Moon, or Chart Ruler, or an angle, or by being singleton (only representative of an element or mode). For those charts where these planets are personalized, however, they're very important. I've noticed that most of the notable charts I've delineated feature at least 2 of them prominent, often all 3. The outer plane...

Bruce Lee, the 12th house, and Early Death

Bruce Lee's chart. This is an unusual one, in that it's a noteworthy person with a profoundly afflicted chart. He also died at 32 from an utterly freak allergic reaction to an ingredient in a headache remedy. Sagittarius Rising, day birth. Sun is one degree above the Ascendant, so he was going to be a noteworthy personality no matter what. Jupiter is chart ruler, in the 6th, retrograde, tightly conjunct Saturn (also retrograde). Both are largely out of sect. The 6th house is a bad one for the Chart Ruler, especially considering its associations with health. Uranus (the sudden and unexpected), it should be noted, occupies this house too, also retrograde. Four planets in Scorpio, in the 12th house: Venus, Mars, the Moon, and Mercury, all rising ahead of the Sun. Mars is a final dispositor. Venus, Mars, and Moon are also in bad relation to sect. Notably, the Moon is also a planet of health indications. This is made worse by the Part of Fortune (my third health indicato...

Einstein: A Solar Deity

Chart of Albert Einstein. What are the notable features and what made him such a genius and scientific celebrity? There are a number of stand-out features: he has at least 2 (and arguably 4) singletons, Sun and Jupiter for certain, and some might count Uranus and the Moon as singletons, being the only planets in their quadrants. Let's keep it simple and only regard Sun (only Water) and Jupiter (only Air) as the singletons. Sun in the 9th house (its Joy), loosely conjunct the MC, and Jupiter in the 8th, a traditionally weak house (but it IS in hayz, making it more powerful and well-behaved).. Notably, Pluto is the point focus of a T-Square with Jupiter and Uranus. With Jupiter both singleton and in a powerful T-Square, the effects on the intellect are obvious, but a lot of people that year would've had a similar T-Square. Not all had Jupiter singleton. To the more classical considerations: Sun is sect light, and, as noted, in its Joy. Its triplicity lords ar...
